The regulatory requirements for domestic ventilation are covered under a series of Approved Documents (England and Wales) as detailed below;

Part F: Means of Ventilation
Approved Document F provides domestic ventilation methods and rates for new build dwellings and information for existing building compliance.
Part L: Conservation of Fuel and Power
Approved Document L regulates building emissions through SAP (Standard Assessment Procedure) that includes ventilation provision within new domestic dwellings.
SAP Appendix Q
An Appendix to SAP (standard assessment procedure) which details energy efficient ventilation products that offer improved performance over default settings for ventilation systems, offering reductions in DER (dwelling emissions rates)
Part J: Heat Producing Appliances
Approved Doucment J regulates the safety of combustion appliances and fuel storage systems in domestic dwellings, which includes the provision of adequate ventilation where combustion appliances are installed
Part P: Electrical Safety
Approved Document P regulates electrical design and installation in order to protect persons operating, maintaining or altering the installations from fire or injury, including the installation of new or replacement ventilation systems.
